H1N1 Vaccination
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are still urging all Americans to be vaccinated against the H1N1 Infuenza virus as soon as possible. In addition to the risk of a "third wave" of infection returning this spring, it is widely expected that this H1N1 virus will continue to be a dominant strain for the 2010-2011 flu season. In fact, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have just recommended that this strain of H1N1 virus also be included in next year's seasonal flu vaccine. Although the effort to vaccinate the population was delayed by slow production of the vaccine, there is now plenty of vaccine available. |

Flu Shot Reminder
Yearly flu vaccination should continue throughout the influenza season, into December, January, and beyond. While influenza outbreaks can happen as early as October, most of the time influenza activity peaks in January or later. Because protective antibody levels take about two weeks to develop after vaccination, it makes no sense to wait until an outbreak starts before you protect yourself.
In the words of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):
Don't get the flu. Don't pass the flu. Get vaccinated. |
